Frequently asked questions
At Amitop Care, we believe that feeling informed and at ease is the first step toward meaningful care. Here are answers to questions and concerns we often hear so you can move forward with confidence.
In simple terms, what kind of mental health support do you provide, and for whom is it best suited?
Our expertise, your journey: precision psychiatry with a human heart. We provide expert psychiatric care for adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood disorders, but we do it by seeing you, not just your symptoms.
What we provide:
- Specialized focus: Adult outpatient psychiatric evaluations and evidence-based medication management.
- Core conditions: Anxiety, depression, ADHD, and mood disorders.
- Our method: A fusion of clinical precision and holistic insight. We connect the dots between biology, life story, and goals to build a personalized treatment plan.
Who it’s best suited for:
- Adults (18+) seeking a trusted expert who listens deeply.
- Those who prefer or require a self-pay model for greater privacy, flexibility, and unrestricted care.
- Individuals looking for a collaborative partnership where you are an active voice in your treatment.
- People who value efficiency and clarity with straightforward scheduling, transparent fees, and the option for telehealth.
What makes this "mind-blowing":
In a system often felt as rushed and impersonal, we offer something radically simple: psychiatry that remembers the human behind the chart. We don’t just prescribe we partner. You won’t find cookie-cutter solutions here. Instead, you’ll find clarity, respect, and a dedicated guide for your mental health journey, all within a framework designed for your modern life. We treat the condition, but we honor the person. If you’re ready for care that matches your complexity with equal parts expertise and empathy, you’ve found your place. Welcome to Amitop Care. Where science meets story, and healing begins.
How can people have their appointments with you (online or in-person), and what's the most important thing they should know about paying for your services?
Your appointment options: flexibility designed for you. We offer care in the format that best fits your life and comfort:
- Telehealth: Secure, private video sessions from your home or office.
- In-person: Available based on location and scheduling (please specify your preference when booking).
Appointments are scheduled Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET, with 48 hours advance notice required.
The most important thing to know about payment:
We are a self-pay practice, which means we do not bill insurance directly. This is an intentional choice that allows us to prioritize you, not insurance paperwork or restrictions. Here’s what that truly means for your care:
- Focused, unhurried time: Your appointments are structured for depth, not dictated by insurance limits.
- Total privacy: Your diagnosis and treatment stay between us; no need for insurance authorizations or shared records.
- Clear & simple investing: You know the cost upfront: $300 for the initial evaluation, $150 for follow-ups. Payment is due at the time of service via credit/debit card, HSA, or FSA.
We empower you with documentation (a superbill) to seek potential out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance, should your plan allow it.
In short: We provide expert, compassionate psychiatric care your way—online or in-person—through a transparent self-pay model built to keep the focus entirely on your well-being. Ready to begin with clarity and confidence? We’re here to help you move forward.
If someone is new to Amitop Care, what's the first step they should take, and what can they expect during their initial visit?
Your first step & what to expect: a clear path to care.
The first step: reach out
To begin, simply contact our practice via phone or email during business hours (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM ET). Let us know you’re interested in becoming a new patient, and we’ll guide you through a brief pre-consultation to ensure we’re a good fit for your needs. We’ll then schedule your initial psychiatric evaluation at a time that works for you.
What to expect during your initial visit (60–90 minutes)
Your first visit is a collaborative, in-depth conversation designed to build understanding—not just a checklist. Here’s how it unfolds:
- A warm, safe welcome: You’ll be greeted with respect and empathy from the moment we connect. This is a judgment-free zone where you can speak openly.
- Your story, heard deeply: We’ll explore not only your current symptoms and challenges but also your personal history, life context, strengths, and goals. We believe understanding who you are is essential to understanding how best to support you.
- Collaborative assessment & education: Together, we’ll review your experiences through a clinical lens, discussing potential diagnoses in clear, accessible language. You’ll have every opportunity to ask questions—this is your session.
- Building your personalized roadmap: By the end of our time, we’ll co-create an initial treatment plan tailored to you. This may include:
- Medication options (if appropriate), with thorough discussion of benefits, risks, and alternatives.
- Integrative strategies for lifestyle, sleep, and stress.
- A clear plan for follow-up and ongoing support.
- Transparency & next steps: We’ll review logistics together:
- Payment will be collected securely at the visit’s conclusion.
- You’ll receive your superbill for potential insurance reimbursement.
- Your next appointment will be scheduled before you leave.
Important to know before you come: Please bring: A list of current medications, any past psychiatric records (if available), and your preferred payment method.
Our commitment: You will leave feeling heard, hopeful, and with a clear path forward. We capture not just the clinical mind, but the human spirit—and that journey begins from the very first conversation. We’re honored to be considered part of your wellness journey and look forward to welcoming you.
Is medication the only option you offer? I’m hesitant about starting meds.
No medication is just one tool in a broader toolkit. Our approach is collaborative and personalized. We’ll explore all available paths with you, including therapy integration, lifestyle adjustments, and non-pharmacological strategies. You’ll receive clear, balanced information so you can decide what feels right and you are always in control of your treatment plan.
What if I need help between appointments or have an emergency?
We are an outpatient practice and do not provide emergency or crisis services. For urgent concerns, we recommend calling 911 or going to the nearest emergency room. However, for non-urgent questions or clarifications, we offer secure messaging between scheduled visits and will ensure you have a clear list of crisis resources as part of your care plan.
Can i still see my therapist while working with you?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage coordinated care when possible. With your permission, we can collaborate with your therapist to create a seamless, holistic treatment approach. Many patients find that combining therapy with medication management supports deeper and more sustained progress.
What if the medication has side effects?
Your safety and comfort come first. We follow a “start low, go slow” philosophy and prioritize medications with favorable tolerability. You’ll receive clear guidance on what to expect, and we encourage open communication if something doesn’t feel right, we’ll adjust promptly. Our goal is effective treatment without unnecessary discomfort.
Why do you offer tele-psychiatry services?
Patients can seek care at a time and place that’s convenient to them. Forget about a stressful, time-consuming trip and the potential awkwardness of a psychiatrist’s waiting room. Just grab your mobile or laptop to connect with your doctor. Moreover, unlike most other medical specialties, psychiatrists typically don’t need to perform physical evaluations. So psychiatry is uniquely placed to take advantage of modern technology.
Do you treat ADHD?
Yes, but with some exceptions. ADHD treatment often includes medications that are controlled substances, which we do not prescribe. There are non-controlled medications indicated for the treatment of ADHD, and if you are open to these treatments we would be glad to see you for an evaluation.
Do you prescribe medications?
Yes, medications will be prescribed when clinically appropriate. There is one exception to this: the practice does prescribe controlled substances, which includes stimulants (e.g. Adderall and Ritalin), benzodiazepines (e.g. Xanax and Klonopin), and some sleep medications (e.g. Ambien and Lunesta).
What is your policy on benzodiazepines ?
The research is clear that these medications are safe to be taken for short time but not long periods of time and that they have significant short and long term side effects. We do not prescribe these medications. However, we are confident in our ability to provide you with safe and effective alternatives to these medications.
How do I know if we’ll be a good fit?
The relationship between patient and provider is essential to healing. Your first session is a two-way conversation you’re evaluating us just as much as we’re learning about you. If at any point you don’t feel fully comfortable or supported, we will help refer you to a provider who may be a better match. Your trust is our priority.
I’ve had rushed appointments with other providers. How is your approach different?
We intentionally keep our practice small and our appointments focused. Because we do not bill insurance, we are free from restrictive session limits. Your scheduled time is reserved just for you to listen, understand, and respond thoughtfully. Here, you won’t feel like a number.
How long until i feel better?
Healing is personal and rarely linear. While some notice improvements early on, others may need gradual adjustments. We’ll set realistic expectations together, monitor your progress at every step, and adapt your plan as needed. You are not alone in this journey we are here to walk alongside you.
Am i worth this investment?
If this thought has crossed your mind, please know: Investing in your mental health is one of the most meaningful commitments you can make to yourself and you deserve care that honors that commitment. We meet your investment with unwavering attention, expertise, and respect. This isn’t just about managing symptoms; it’s about reclaiming your well-being, on your terms.
What are the available treatment options?
Treatment options will be discussed in detail during your appointment. Depending on your situation, treatment may include prescribed medication and natural herbal remedies that research has shown to be effective for your condition. In addition we will recommend therapy as part of your treatment plan.
Do you provide therapy?
The primary services offered at Amitop Care are diagnosis (figuring out what’s wrong), psycho-education (teaching you the science underlying your condition) and medication management (identifying which medications might be appropriate, if any, and prescribing accordingly). Patients often experience the best outcomes when these treatments are utilized in combination with therapy. As part of your treatment plan, your provider may therefore recommend that you also work with a therapist.
What is your cancellation policy?
A minimum of 48 hours notice is required for rescheduling or cancellation of an appointment. If you are not covered by one of these plans, we do provide a “superbill” with which patients may claim out-of-network benefits. Certain insurance plans, such as PPO plans, will accept such documentation subject to policy terms. To check how much you would be reimbursed, contact your carrier and quote the following CPT codes: 99205 for the initial evaluation, and both 99214 & 90833 for follow-up appointments.
What is a good faith estimate, and how does it apply?
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a medical plan or who do not have coverage or are not eligible for a Federal health care program, or who are not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage, both orally and in writing, upon their request or at the time of scheduling health care services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges. Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your rights to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
